Review Guidelines

Section 1 (Purpose)

The purpose of these Guidelines is to set out conditions for the review of manuscripts submitted to the Journal of the Korean Society of Fisheries and Aquatic Sciences (hereinafter referred to as the “Society”) and whether to publish them.

Section 2 (Appointment of Reviewers)

1. The Editor-in-Chief shall appoint section editors or editors who will be responsible for reviewing manuscripts submitted to the Society.
2. Appointed section editors or editors shall become Editors responsible for reviewing manuscripts.
3. Editors responsible shall appoint two reviewers and supervise the review process.

Section 3 (Request for Review)

The Editors responsible shall appoint two reviewers within a week and request a review.

Section 4 (Review Period)

1. Reviewers should return the review results within 14 days of the request if it is the initial review, or 7 days for a secondary review.
2. The Editor-in-Chief may demand that reviewers submit their decision within 14 days after they have failed to do so, and may withdraw the request for review if the reviewers fail to submit their decision within 7 days after the first demand.
3. Manuscripts for which review has been withdrawn shall be immediately returned to the Society.
4. Urgent reviews shall be completed within 14 days of the receipt of manuscripts.

Section 5 (Decision by Reviewers)

1. Reviewers shall return to the Society their decision along with the manuscript, such as Accepted, Publish after revisions, Re-review after revisions, Reject and resubmit, and Rejected.
2. Reviewers shall specify the details of revisions to be made in the decision if it is deemed necessary to revise the manuscript.
3. Reviewers shall specify the reason for such decisions as Reject and Resubmit or Rejected in the decision.

Section 6 (Processing Review Results)

1. If a decision made by reviewers is “Re-review after revisions,” the Society shall ask the author to make the required revisions and reply to the decision, and request a re-review after receiving the revised manuscript and reply.
2. If a decision made by reviewers is “Publish after revisions,” the Society shall ask the author to make the required revisions and reply to the decision, and the Editors responsible shall review the revised manuscript and reply.
3. If a decision made by reviewers is “Reject and Re-submit” or “Rejected,” the Editors responsible shall review the results.
4. If at least two reviewers decide the manuscript is “Rejected,” the manuscript cannot be published.

Section 7 (Review by Editors)

The editors shall make a decision, such as Accepted, Publish after revisions, Re-review after revisions, Reject and resubmit, and Rejected, based on the review results.

Section 8 (Deciding on Publication)

1. Upon completion of review, the Editor-in-Chief shall decide whether to publish the manuscript in accordance with the review guidelines based on the opinion of the editors.
2. Unless the author submits a revised manuscript within a month after being requested to make changes for no apparent reason, the Editorial Committee will deem the author to have decided not to publish the manuscript.
3. Even if the manuscript has been accepted for publication, or has been published in the journal, the Editorial Committee may re-review the article if it is deemed unacceptable for publication due to such reasons as plagiarism.
4. If the results of the review are “Cannot be published” by two or more reviewers, the paper cannot be published.

Section 9 (Notifying Publication)

The Editor-in-Chief shall notify the author of whether to publish the manuscript or not within 7 days.

Section 10 (Confidentiality)

Any information related to manuscript review shall not be disclosed to a third party.

Section 11

Matters not stated herein shall be handled by the Managing Editor in accordance with customary practice and reported to the Editor-in-Chief.
