Academy Overview

History of KOSFAS
It has been playing a leading role in academic and industrial development in the fields of fisheries and marine science.

2009

· June. 01 An issue of the Korean journal "Korean Society of Fisheries and Aquatic Science" (ISSN 0374-8111) and an issue of the English journal "Fisheries and Aquatic Science" (ISSN 1226-9204) are published.

· May. 01 The name of the Society is changed to the Korean Society of Fisheries and Aquatic Science Foundation.

· April. 01 Merged with the Korea Aquaculture Society.

2004

· May. 01 Merged with the Korea Fisheries Resources Society.

1998

· June. 01 The first issue of the English version of the journal called the Journal of Fisheries Science and Technology is published (ISSN 1226-9204).

1986

· May. 01 An ISSN (International Standard Serial Number) is assigned to the Korean Fisheries Science Society Joumal (0374-8111).

1981

· December. 07 The Korean Fisheries Science Society Foundation is established.

1968

· March. 31 The first issue of the Korean Fisheries Science Society Joumal is published.

1955

· December. 24 Established.

Membership
ㆍ Approximately 800 members (active, student, group, honorary, and permanent members)
Objectives of KOSFAS
ㆍ The Society aims to provide people from Korea or other countries who are interested in fisheries and aquatic science with oppotunities to meet each other, to promote an active exchange of information, to contribute to education, reserach, and industral growth related to fisheries science by building a system for joint research and collaboration, and ultimately to pursue the public good and promote the mutual interests of the members.
Major Businesses
① Holding academic research presentations, debates, lectures, and seminars
② Publication of joumals, books, and technical newsletters
③ Networking and collaboration with domestic and international societies
④ Research, surveys, information collection, research promotion, and rewarding of research accompilshments related to fisheries and aquatic science
⑤ Businesses entrusted by government and public organizations or private organizations (groups)
⑥ Management and leasing of assets owned by the Society to achieve the aforementioned objectives, and other necessary businesses
Journal Publication
Publication began in 1968.
① Korean journal : Published 6 times each year, every February, April, June, August, October, and December
② English journal : Published every last day of the month

ㆍ Suggest mid-and long-term development goals by identifying the status of the Korean fisheries industry
ㆍ Suggest manufacturing and policy goals for the conservation of fisheries resources and marine environment
ㆍ Contribute to building an industry-academy-reserch collaborative system to develop the fisheries and marine industry
ㆍ Promote the globalization of fisheries research and joint research
